Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday shared an article by former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant reflecting on leadership, reforms and India’s transformation.

He also outlines how the Aspirational Districts Programme has helped improve health, education, agriculture and basic infrastructure, along with reforms that have made India easier, simpler and more efficient for citizens and businesses.”

In his article, Kant recalled his interaction with PM Modi when the latter was Gujarat Chief Minister. As CEO of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, Kant had proposed developing a greenfield city. While several chief ministers had rejected the proposal, PM Modi suggested expanding the planned area from 150 sq km to 750 sq km. The Gujarat government subsequently enacted the Special Investment Region Act in 2009 and declared Dholera SIR.
Kant also recalled his work after 2014 as Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, when PM Modi asked officials to make India “easier, simpler, and more efficient” for citizens and businesses. He cited reforms including the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, GST and removal of outdated regulations.
Kant further highlighted India’s progress in frontier technologies, including AI, quantum computing, drones, defence and space, as well as the Aspirational Districts Programme and India’s G20 presidency.
He said that his experience with PM Modi had shaped his understanding of leadership as the ability to envision ambitious goals and mobilise institutions and people to realise them.
