A 32-year-old truck driver was killed in the early hours of Monday, March 16, 2026, after his vehicle slammed into a road divider and overturned in the Okhla Industrial Area of Southeast Delhi. Local police report that the driver was allegedly attempting to flee the scene of a prior accident after hitting a motorcyclist at a different location. The high-speed escape attempt ended in a fatal crash near the SIS Prosegur building, marking a tragic start to the week in the industrial hub.
The Delhi Police received a PCR (Police Control Room) call alerting them to a major accident near the Okhla underpass around 1:00 AM. Upon arrival, emergency responders and a senior police team found the heavy vehicle lying on its side, completely mangled after the high-impact collision with the concrete divider. The force of the crash caused the truck to flip, trapping the driver inside the cabin with fatal injuries.
According to a senior police officer, the preliminary investigation suggests the driver lost control while navigating the stretch at high speed. “Our team reached the spot and found that the truck had overturned after ramming into a road divider,” the officer confirmed.
A man was found lying unconscious near the vehicle, who was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre, where doctors declared him dead, the officer said.
The deceased was later identified as Lokendra, a resident of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh. Shortly before the fatal crash, the truck had hit a motorcycle near a petrol pump in Sarita Vihar, the officer said.
“Two persons – the bike rider and the person sitting behind – sustained injuries in the collision and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where their condition is stated to be stable,” he added.
After the collision, the truck driver allegedly fled the spot and crashed into the divider near the Okhla underpass after losing control of the truck. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the Okhla Industrial Area and the preceding location to establish the full sequence of events leading up to the hit-and-run and the fatal turnover.
