The government has said that India currently has adequate crude oil and LPG stocks even as supply chains face temporary disruptions amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Officials also confirmed that the sale of commercial LPG cylinders has been partially restored.
Addressing a briefing on the situation, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Oil Ministry, said the Centre has asked state governments to prioritise the distribution of commercial LPG cylinders depending on local requirements.
She noted that while LPG supply has faced some logistical challenges due to the evolving situation in West Asia, the country’s energy security remains intact. “We have sufficient crude stock and all refineries are operating at full capacity,” Sharma said.
The official added that the sale of commercial LPG cylinders, which had been affected earlier, has now been partially restored in several regions.
To ease the pressure on LPG supplies, some City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies have started offering incentives to consumers to shift from LPG to piped natural gas (PNG). Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a Rs 500 incentive for customers willing to make the transition.
The Oil Ministry also reassured that adequate LPG inventories are available in the country despite supply bottlenecks. However, authorities have urged consumers not to indulge in panic booking of cylinders.
Officials said the Centre, along with relevant ministries and industry stakeholders, is closely monitoring the situation to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.
The advisory comes as geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to disrupt global energy logistics, prompting governments to remain cautious about supply chains and distribution.
