New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Sunday made the 8th arrest in connection with the murder of 26-year-old Tarun in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. The Accused, identified as Imran alias Bunty, 38 was arrested four days after the brutal killing of a man over a minor issue of water balloon splash during Holi celebration. Police has also invoked the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the case.
The arrest was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh, he said, “In continuation of the arrests earlier made in the case, eighth accused – Imran @ Bunty, aged 38 years, has also been arrested. Also, as per the statements of deceased Tarun’s family, stringent provisions of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act have been invoked.”
How It All Started
The trigger was startlingly ordinary. During Holi celebrations, a girl from Tarun’s family threw a water balloon that splashed onto a woman from the neighbouring family. What began as a festival dispute quickly turned violent brawl between the two communities. According to Tarun’s father, around 15-20 people attacked him and killed him on the spot when he was returning home on March 4th after Holi celebrations.
Police say the two families had lived in close proximity for nearly five decades, with long-running friction over everyday issues like parking and garbage disposal — suggesting the water balloon was the final spark in a relationship already at breaking point.
Who Has Been Arrested So Far
Seven people were apprehended earlier in the case, inlcuding a minor. Those taken into custody so far include Umardeen (49), Jummadeen (36), Kamruddin (36), Mustaque (46), Muzzafar (25), and Tahir (18), along with a minor who has been apprehended separately. Imran alias Bunty is the eighth accused to be arrested.
Bulldozer Action on Family
On the demand of family and given the circumstances of the case, civic authorities on Sunday (March 8) demolished portions of the residential building belonging to one of the accused in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area. The action was carried out at JJ Colony with the support of Delhi Police, who maintained heavy security in the locality amid ongoing tensions.
Visuals from the area showed a crane arriving at JJ Colony on Sunday morning as officials began razing parts of a three-storey house linked to one of the accused. Later, workers armed with hammers continued the demolition work. A large police presence was deployed across the locality during the operation to prevent any untoward incident. the action comes a day after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, during a post on ‘X’ warned of strict action in the matter.
