The Union Public Service Commission is expected to release the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) Final Result 2025 soon on its official website upsc.gov.in. Candidates who appeared for the personality test round are now waiting for the final list of selected candidates for India’s top civil services.
Based on previous years’ trends, the UPSC CSE final result is usually announced within four to six days after the conclusion of the interview process. The personality tests for the 2025 cycle concluded on February 27, 2026, which means the result is expected between March 3 and March 5, 2026. However, the commission has not yet officially confirmed the exact release date.
Around 979 candidates to be recommended
Once the result is declared, the commission will recommend approximately 979 candidates for appointment to several prestigious services, including:
- Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
- Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
- Indian Police Service (IPS)
- Other Group A and Group B central services
The recruitment process for the UPSC CSE 2025 began with the Preliminary Examination held on May 25, 2025. Candidates who qualified in the prelims appeared for the Mains examination conducted in August 2025. The final stage of the process, the Personality Test or Interview, concluded in February 2026.
Vacancy trends in UPSC CSE 2025
The 979 vacancies expected in the 2025 cycle represent a slight decline compared to the 1,056 vacancies filled in the 2024 recruitment cycle. However, the number still remains higher than earlier years such as 2021 and 2022, when vacancies were around 712 and 761 respectively.
Among the different services, the number of positions for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is expected to remain stable at 180 posts, a figure that has remained unchanged since the 2022 cycle following recommendations by the Baswan Committee.
Another notable point this year is the expected intake of around 55 officers for the Indian Foreign Service, which would be one of the highest recruitments for diplomats in recent years.
IAS salary for selected candidates
Candidates selected for the IAS will start their training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie.
During the training period, officers receive a basic pay of ₹56,100 per month under Pay Level 10 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, along with additional allowances such as Dearness Allowance.

What happens after the result
After the final result is declared, candidates will undergo medical examinations and cadre allocation. Under the current cadre policy, only one-third of vacancies in a state can be filled by candidates from that state, while the remaining positions are allocated to candidates from other states to maintain the All-India character of the services.
For thousands of aspirants who appeared for the interview stage, the upcoming UPSC result will determine the final outcome of one of the most competitive examinations in India.
