Three persons riding a motorcycle were killed after their two-wheeler was hit by another vehicle on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Saturday, police said. The accident took place at Waghoba Khind in the Dhekale area under the jurisdiction of Manor police station. According to an official, a vehicle rammed into a motorcycle carrying three individuals.
“The impact was so severe that all three riders died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle sped away,” he said.
The victims are yet to be identified. “The bodies have been shifted to the Manor Rural Hospital for post-mortem. The victims are yet to be identified,” the official said.
Police have registered a case and launched a search for the absconding driver. “The police are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby toll booths to track down the driver who fled the spot,” the official added.
Vehicle Pile-up Disrupts Traffic
In a separate incident, traffic on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway was disrupted for several hours on Saturday following a pile-up involving four vehicles in Palghar district.
The accident occurred around noon in the Sasupada area of Vasai and involved a container truck, a tempo, and two cars.
Police said the vehicles collided with each other and sustained significant damage. However, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The crash brought traffic to a standstill, with long queues of vehicles stretching for several kilometres. Local residents were the first to respond and initiated rescue efforts.
“We are using cranes to clear the remove the damaged vehicles,” said the official.
