Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran was awarded the UK Knighthood ‘Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ on Wednesday, for his contributions in strengthening business ties between the United Kingdom and India.
Chandrasekaran was honoured for his services to strengthening business relations between the two countries, according to a British government statement issued in February.
The honour was presented by UK High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron on behalf of His Majesty King Charles.
“Today, our Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran has been presented the insignia of the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) for services to UK-India business relations. Congratulations Sir,” Tata Group wrote on X.
“The Tata Group is among the biggest Indian employers in the UK. I am pleased to present its Chairman, N Chandrasekaran the KBE on behalf of His Majesty The King. A well-deserved recognition and a testament to his impact on global business and his many contributions to advancing UK-India growth,” wrote UK High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron in a post on X.
Chandrasekaran heads Tata Sons, the holding company and promoter of over 100 Tata operating firms with combined annual revenues of more than $100 billion. He joined the Tata Sons board in October 2016 and was named chairman in January 2017, becoming the first professional outside the Tata family to head the conglomerate.
Before leading Tata Sons, Chandrasekaran was CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) from 2009 to 2017, during which he steered the company’s growth into one of the world’s largest IT services firms. He currently chairs the boards of several key Tata Group companies, including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Consultancy Services.
Chandrasekaran has also participated in various global business forums representing Indian industry and is an active member of India’s bilateral business forums with the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan. Earlier in his career, he served as chairman of NASSCOM, the trade body for India’s IT services sector, during 2012-13.
The Order of the British Empire honours individuals for their contributions to public life, including achievements in business, culture and international relations.
