Tata Consumer claims its X account compromised, unauthorised posts being published

tata consumer claimed official x account compromised, unauthorised...; check what consumer giant said

Tata Consumer Products on Tuesday said its official account on X has been compromised, with unauthorised posts being published without the company’s approval.

In a statement, the company confirmed that it is aware of the security breach and has initiated steps to regain control of the account. Tata Consumer advised stakeholders, customers and the general public not to engage with or rely on any recent posts from the handle until further notice.

“We have identified that our official X account has been compromised. Unauthorised posts are being published. We are actively working with the platform to resolve the issue and restore full control,” the company said.

Stakeholders asked to exercise caution

The company urged users to refrain from interacting with the compromised account, including clicking on links or responding to direct messages that may have been posted during the breach. It cautioned that such unauthorised content may not reflect the company’s views, policies or official communications.

Tata Consumer further clarified that, based on its preliminary assessment, no sensitive internal systems or customer data appear to have been accessed as a result of the incident. The breach is currently limited to the social media account, according to the company’s statement.

“We would like to reassure all stakeholders that there is no evidence at this time of any compromise of sensitive information,” the company said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Engagement with platform underway

The company said it is in direct contact with X’s support and security teams to regain access and secure the account. It did not disclose the nature of the unauthorised posts or whether any malicious links were shared during the breach.

Cybersecurity experts note that social media account compromises have become increasingly common, often involving phishing attempts, password theft or unauthorised third-party app access. Such breaches can pose reputational risks, especially for publicly listed companies, as misleading or false information may temporarily influence investor sentiment.

Tata Consumer, part of the larger Tata Group, is a major player in India’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, with brands spanning beverages, packaged foods and essential products. Given its market presence, the company’s social media platforms serve as key channels for corporate communication and customer engagement.

The incident comes amid rising concerns over corporate cybersecurity preparedness, particularly on digital and social media platforms that are frequently targeted by bad actors seeking visibility or financial gain.

Tata Consumer said it will provide further updates once control of the account is fully restored and security measures are strengthened. In the interim, the company has advised the public to rely only on verified corporate communications through official channels.
