Chennai: Residents across several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Krishnagiri, are set to face scheduled power cuts on Saturday, January 10, as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) carries out its monthly maintenance work at power stations and substations.

According to officials, the planned outages are part of routine measures to ensure safe, stable and uninterrupted electricity supply in the long run. Power supply will be suspended in selected areas during the daytime, mainly between 9 am and 2 pm, while essential repair and upgrade works are undertaken.

Why the Power Supply Is Being Interrupted

TANGEDCO conducts regular maintenance across substations to repair power lines, replace ageing cables and carry out safety checks. During these works, electricity supply is temporarily halted in areas connected to the respective power lines to ensure the safety of both electricity board staff and the public.

As per standard practice, residents have been informed in advance about the planned shutdowns.

Chennai Power Cut Areas

In Chennai, power supply will be affected in parts of Thirumudivakkam, including Murugan Temple Road, Temple City, Upper Street, Palavarayan Kulakkarai Street, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Ranganathan Nagar, Nalleshwarar Nagar, Bandaram Street, Jagannathpuram, Boise Avenue, Babu Nagar and surrounding localities.

Other areas in the city likely to face outages include Madambakkam Main Road, the entire Maruthi Nagar, parts of Anna Nagar and Sudharshan Nagar, along with Matha Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, IAF Main Road, Ricky Garden, AKB Homes, Aishwarya Apartments and Sumeru City.

Coimbatore, Perambalur and Krishnagiri to Be Affected

In Coimbatore district, power cuts have been announced in areas such as Irugur, Ondipudur, Ottarpalayam, SIHS Colony, parts of Pallapalayam and Kannampalayam, Chinniampalayam, Venkittapuram, Thottipalayam, Goldwins, Krishnapuram, Semmandampalayam, parts of Kaniyur and Somanur.

In Perambalur district, several villages in the Veppanthattai region will be affected, including Kottarakunru, Boomithanam, Koraiyaru, Vettuvalmedu, Gounder Palayam, Arumbavur, Vijayapuram, Poonjolai, Thondamanthurai, Periyasamy Temple area, A. Mettur, Melakunankudi, Veppadi, Palakkadu, Kallapatti, Arasadikadu, Poolampadi, Srinivasapuram and Kadambur.

In Krishnagiri district, power supply will be disrupted in Sanachandram, Onnalvadi, Sanamavu, Thorapalli, Karapalli, Kollapalli, Tiruchippalli, Old Temple HUDCO area, Alasanatham, Periyar Nagar, Bharathidasan Nagar, Kumaran Nagar, Vallalar Nagar and the New Bus Stand area.

Madurai and Virudhunagar Districts Also on the List

In Madurai district, outages are expected along Palamedu Main Road, Chokkalinga Nagar, Shanthi Nagar, Appathurai Nagar, Anjal Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Railar Nagar, Koodal Nagar, Chokkanathapuram, areas around Fatima College and the opposite side, as well as Vilankudi Mandai and nearby localities.

In Virudhunagar district, particularly in the Sivakasi region, power supply will be stopped in Thiruthangal, Chengamalanachiyarpuram, Keezhathiruthangal, State Bank Colony, Saradha Nagar, Poovanathapuram, Vadapatti, Naduvapatti, Eenjar, Devar Kulam, Sukravarpatti,

Athiveeranpatti, Namaskarithanpatti and Sanar Patti.

Officials have advised residents to plan their day accordingly and take necessary precautions during the outage period. Power supply is expected to be restored once maintenance work is completed, barring any technical issues.
