Chennai: A Class X student was allegedly harassed by a group of around 10 men in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruttani, who later followed her home and went on a rampage, damaging houses and vehicles in the area. Five of the accused have been arrested, while others remain on the run. The incident happened on Monday after the girl was returning home from her public examination. Police said she had travelled by bus to Veeraganallur village, where her brother picked her up on a motorcycle. While passing through a forested stretch, a group of youths allegedly passed inappropriate remarks and created a disturbance. When her brother confronted them, the situation escalated.

The group later followed the girl to her residence and attacked the area. Armed with hammers and wooden logs, they smashed window panes of the victim’s house and nearby homes. Residents said the mob also hurled stones, broke ceiling fans, and damaged motorcycles and autorickshaws parked outside, triggering panic in the locality. The accused, who arrived on bikes, also rode recklessly before fleeing the scene.

Following complaints from residents, Tiruttani police registered a case and arrested five suspects – Kishore (22), Arunkumar (19), Vijay (26), Pargunam (19), and Meganathan (26), all from VCR Kandigai village. Efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
The violence sparked protests in the village, with over 100 residents blocking the Tiruttani–RK Pet state highway, demanding swift action against those involved. The blockade disrupted traffic for nearly an hour before police intervened and persuaded the protesters to disperse after assurances of action.
