If you are travelling in Ahmedabad on Sunday, expect traffic diversions around the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final between India and New Zealand takes place. With thousands of spectators and several VIPs expected at the stadium, city police have announced road closures and alternate routes to manage traffic and security.
“During the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup India-2026 final match at the ‘Narendra Modi Stadium,’ traffic passing through the specified route is restricted/diverted for vehicle movement,” Ahmedabad Traffic Police said in a post on X.
Ahmedabad Traffic Advisory: What time will restrictions begin?
According to Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G. S. Malik, traffic restrictions will be in place from 10 am on March 8 until midnight, and may extend till 2 am on March 9 in areas surrounding the stadium.
Ahmedabad Traffic Advisory: Which roads will be closed?
The following key stretches will remain closed to general traffic:
- Janpath T-Junction to Narendra Modi Stadium main gate
- Krupa Residency T-Junction to Motera Gam T-Junction
Commuters are advised to avoid these routes and plan their travel accordingly.
Alternative routes suggested by police
Vehicles coming from the Tapovan side can take the following route:
Tapovan Circle → ONGC Crossroads → Visat T-Junction → Janpath T-Junction → Powerhouse Crossroads → Prabodh Raval Circle.
Those reaching Krupa Residency T-Junction are advised to divert via:
Sharan Status Crossroads → Bhat–Koteshwar Road → Apollo Circle.
Special event before the match
The closing ceremony will feature a performance by global pop star Ricky Martin, scheduled to begin at 5.30 pm, which is expected to further increase crowd movement around the stadium.
Police appeal to citizens
Ahmedabad police have urged residents and commuters to follow the traffic advisory and cooperate with authorities. Officials also warned that strict action may be taken against those violating traffic regulations near the stadium.
