Political Feud or Personal Affair? BJP Worker Found Dead With Throat Slit in West Bengal—What Led to His Murder?

political feud or personal affair? bjp worker found dead with throat slit in west bengal—what led to his murder? kolkata news

A 38-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was found murdered with his throat slit near his residence in South 24 Parganas’ Raidighi, West Bengal, on Monday night. The incident happened around 70 kms away from Kolkata, and has caused panic and anxiety among locals, according to a TOI report. The police are suspecting an extra-marital affair angle, which led to the murder of BJP worker Kishore Das.

According to the police, locals found the body of the man near a pond adjacent to the victim’s house. As soon as the officials were alerted, they moved his body to Raidighi Rural Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Das’s death triggered political reactions as he served as the vice-president of booth number 216 of the BJP.

What Could Have Led To His Murder?

According to The Statesman report, the BJP leaders alleged that Das was receiving threats since the announcement of the Assembly Elections and blamed “Trinamul-backed miscreants” for the killing.

The police, however, found something else suspicious. They suspect an extramarital affair, which led to his killing. Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, police detained three persons for questioning and later arrested Maji’s wife, Anima Das, along with her alleged partner, Gobinda Haldar. Both are currently being interrogated, officials said.

What BJP Workers Are Saying?

BJP Candidate for the Raidighi Palash Rana alleged that the police and the TMC are creating drama by claiming that this was a case of an illicit relationship.

“If they attempt to cover up this murder, their efforts will fail. The BJP will continue its agitation until justice is served for this killing,” he added, according to a Statesman report.

What TMC Said?

The Trinamool Congress has dismissed the allegations, stating that the BJP is essentially trying to capitalize on troubled waters. Bapi Haldar, the Trinamool MP from Mathurapur, said, “At its core, this is a matter of a love triangle. The BJP is now attempting to pin the blame on the Trinamool. There could be no conspiracy more despicable than this,” IANS reported.
