Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his Jayanti, describing him as a visionary leader, exceptional administrator, strategic thinker and champion of Swarajya whose life continues to inspire generations.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “On the Jayanti of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, we bow in reverence to the visionary leader, exceptional administrator, strategic thinker and champion of Swarajya. May his courage inspire us, his governance guide us and his spirit of justice and self-respect strengthen our society.”
Sharing a video message along with his tribute, PM Modi said Shivaji Maharaj’s personality was extraordinary and that he was not just a historical figure but a source of deep reverence for millions.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Shivaji Maharaj always placed the welfare of every individual above everything else and devoted himself to ensuring their protection. This unwavering commitment to public welfare, he said, is why the Maratha ruler’s life remains a guiding light for India across generations. He added that Shivaji Maharaj established Swarajya while also laying emphasis on good governance, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape national consciousness.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is observed annually on February 19 to mark the birth anniversary of the founder of the Maratha Empire. This year marks his 395th birth anniversary. The day is celebrated with pride and devotion across the country, particularly in Maharashtra.
Shivaji Maharaj is remembered as one of India’s greatest warrior kings and a brilliant military tactician who fought several battles against Mughal forces and was crowned Chhatrapati in 1674.
