The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday dismissed panic booking and hoarding of domestic LPG cylinders as fallout from misinformation, asserting that the average delivery cycle remains steady at two-and-a-half days. Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma announced the rollout of a Delivery Authentication Code system to curb diversions and a temporary increase in the minimum booking gap from 21 to 25 days to manage demand.
Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma said, “Panic booking and hoarding were triggered by misinformation. The average domestic #LPG delivery cycle remains around two and a half days.”
“Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system has been implemented to prevent the diversion. This system requires customers to provide a code to the delivery person to successfully receive their cylinder,” she added.
She said, “As a temporary demand management measure, the minimum gap between LPG bookings has been increased from 21 days to 25 days.”
India DOESN’T lack gas supply!
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) India has also released a comprehensive “Myth Buster” thread to counter widespread misinformation about an alleged gas supply shortage in the country.
The government firmly clarified that India does not face any shortfall, assuring 100 per cent uninterrupted supply of domestic piped natural gas to households and CNG for vehicles, while prioritising household LPG and essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
It also warned that hoarding LPG cylinders is illegal and emphasised that petroleum product stocks remain sufficient under round-the-clock monitoring.
