Over 100 PMIS interns to take part in Republic Day programme in Delhi

Over 100 interns from across the country under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) are participating in a three-day Republic Day programme organised by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) in New Delhi. The interns, currently placed with leading companies, are scheduled to attend the Republic Day Parade on January 26 as part of the celebrations.

Interns from companies such as IBM, Infosys, MRF, IDFC Bank and Wipro took part in guided visits to key landmarks, including the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya and Rajghat. On January 25, the interns interacted with Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra, and shared their learning experiences, aspirations and feedback on the scheme.

Addressing the interns, Malhotra underlined the critical role of youth in nation-building and the importance of internships at the beginning of a professional career. He said India’s youth have a pivotal role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, adding that PMIS serves as a bridge between theoretical learning and practical exposure by offering meaningful on-ground experience in leading companies.

Sharing their experiences, Sarawan Kumar from Bihar, a sales intern at Piramal Enterprises, described the scheme as transformative. An arts graduate working in the loan processing department, he said PMIS opened doors to opportunities he had not earlier imagined. His company provides a monthly incentive of ₹9,500, in addition to the ₹5,000 stipend under the scheme. Himani Malhotra from Haryana, an application development intern with IBM, said the internship proved to be a turning point in her career. Selected for a role in Karnataka, she said the experience reinforced her belief that distance is no barrier when the right opportunity comes along.

Officials said the programme provided interns with exposure beyond the workplace, enabling them to interact with peers from across India and gain a broader national perspective, contributing to their professional and personal development.

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme is part of the Prime Minister’s five-point package aimed at boosting employment, skill development and opportunities for Indian youth over five years. The scheme offers paid internships in leading companies across the country to enhance employability through practical industry exposure.
