In a major development, the Kolkata Metro Railway has introduced a return ticket facility with QR code for commuters across all its corridors, an official told PTI news agency on Saturday. From now on, passengers availing this facility won’t have to purchase tickets from metro counters before the return journey, he said.
The metro railway spokesperson said, “This will help them save time and the ordeal of queueing before the counter on return from the destination station.”
“The return journey will have to be completed on the date written on the ticket. Passengers are requested to preserve their tickets for the return journey,” he said.
However, this facility is being rolled out on an experimental basis.
The Kolkata Metro runs trains along the Dakshineswar-Sahid Khudiram, Howrah Maidan-Salt Lake Sector V, Noapara-Jai Hind Bimanbandar, Kavi Subhas-Beleghata and Joka-Majerhat corridors.
Commuters Can Buy Multiple QR-based Paper Tickets
Last year, in another development, Kolkata Metro rolled out a new feature for the commuters. According to that, they were allowed to purchase multiple paper-based tickets with QR codes in a single transaction. Earlier there were allowed to buy only one paper-based QR ticket. The move helped in reducing the queue length and waiting time for ticketing at the counters.
Kolkata Metro Services Disrupted
Moreover, earlier today, services on the Blue line of Metro Railway Kolkata were disrupted for 25 minutes on Saturday evening as a passenger jumped before a running train in a bid to die by suicide at Rabindra Sadan station, the authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly after 9.30 pm, and passengers were asked to disembark from the train. Trains moved in a controlled manner accordingly up to Maidan inthe down line and up to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar in up line.
Normal services over the entire stretch of the Blue Line, which runs from Dakshineswar to New Garia, resumed at 9.59 pm, the Metro Rail said in a statement.
