The search for Nancy Guthrie reached its 41st day, without any hopeful news regarding the 84-year-old’s survival. The manhunt began on February 1, 2026, after the elderly woman, who is the mother of Today Show co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home under mysterious circumstances. The Pima County police and the FBI are looking at the case with priority, suspecting kidnapping. Amid that, reports of Nancy Guthrie and her kidnapper’s spotting at the Mexican border have been making the rounds. Here’s a fact check regarding the situation.
An individual claimed to have spotted Nancy Guthrie
A mystery tipster has contacted outlets like TMZ with claims of having sighted Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy as reported by IBT. The anonymous sender asserts they saw Nancy Guthrie in March 2026 in the south of the US-Mexico border. The individual is demanding USD 70,000 in Bitcoin in exchange for the exact location and the identity of the person Nancy was allegedly with. It was the sixth ransom-style email sent to media outlets during the search for Nancy. The tipster further claimed that they were told to “shut up” by the person with her and that they are using the media as an intermediary because they “don’t trust law enforcement.”
