While chairing a coordination meeting with senior officials on Monday, Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu directed them to operationalise unused parking spaces across the city and enhance police presence in Narela.
The meeting was attended by the Delhi government chief secretary and principal secretary (home), Delhi Police commissioner, principal director of Delhi Fire Services, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) additional commissioners, and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) vice chairman, according to a statement from the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
Sandhu underlined the need for a “whole of government” approach, saying all agencies must work in close coordination rather than in silos, particularly in matters requiring swift, joint action on the ground.
The meeting deliberated a range of issues, including parking-related challenges, encroachments, fire preparedness and several other areas that require coordination between the MCD, DDA and Delhi Police.
Sandhu highlighted the need to increase outreach in schools and directed that the connect with teachers and students be strengthened as part of ongoing civic and safety initiatives like the enforcement of POCSO guidelines.
Regarding parking, Sandhu instructed that unused parking sites across the city be made operational as soon as possible and stressed the development of multi-level parking facilities to alleviate the increasing pressure on available space.
He provided specific directions to the Delhi Police to enhance their presence and ensure security in the rapidly developing Narela area. Furthermore, he instructed the MCD to ensure proper civic amenities in that region.
The meeting also addressed the demarcation and designation of vending areas, along with the timely completion of vendor surveys and the establishment of Town Vending Committees by the MCD.
