Lokesh Reviews BITS Pilani AI Campus Plan in Amaravati

Amaravati is set to emerge as a major hub for next-generation technology education as the proposed BITS Pilani AI Plus Campus takes shape in the capital region. Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, IT and Electronics, Nara Lokesh, reviewed the construction plans of the prestigious campus during a meeting with representatives of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani on Friday.

The BITS delegation, including Siddharth Banerjee, N. Chennaveer and B.S. Sahani, met the minister at his residence in Undavalli and presented detailed plans for the upcoming AI-focused campus in Amaravati. During the meeting, they explained the academic vision, infrastructure plans and long-term development strategy for the institution.

According to the BITS representatives, the Amaravati campus will focus heavily on advanced and emerging technologies. The institution plans to offer specialised courses in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Computational Linguistics and Cyber Physical Systems. These programs are designed to equip students with the skills required for future technology-driven industries.

The campus is being planned in two phases and is expected to accommodate nearly 7,000 students once fully operational. Officials said that BITS Pilani intends to invest around ₹1,000 crore in the Amaravati campus over the next five years to build world-class academic and research infrastructure.

The representatives also stated that the campus is being developed in line with the technology-driven vision of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The institution aims to create a next-generation learning environment that integrates cutting-edge technologies with interdisciplinary research.

Construction work for the campus has already begun, and the project will follow environmentally sustainable practices. Plans include the development of green buildings and the use of renewable energy solutions to make the campus eco-friendly and future-ready.

Officials further revealed that the Amaravati campus is expected to become the first dedicated AI-focused campus in India. In addition to technology-driven programs, the institution is also planning courses that integrate technology with sectors such as agriculture, climate studies and healthcare, reflecting the growing importance of technology across multiple industries.

After reviewing the proposed construction plans, Minister Nara Lokesh expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project. He urged the BITS management to take necessary steps to ensure the campus is completed and made operational at the earliest.

The establishment of the BITS Pilani AI Plus Campus is expected to significantly strengthen Amaravati’s position as an emerging centre for higher education, technology research and innovation in India. The project is also likely to attract students, researchers and technology collaborations from across the country and abroad, further boosting the region’s academic and technological ecosystem.
