Delhi-NCR Murder: A woman’s dead body was found on the service lane of Noida Sector 129 on Monday, triggering a police investigation that began with establishing her identity. The police followed the trail to a cab driver in Delhi who allegedly strangled the woman with her scarf, took her bag containing Rs 3.5 lakh, and fled. According to preliminary investigation, the deceased had left her husband to meet the accused. When she proposed marriage to the accused, he told her he was already married and refused.

The woman has been identified as Kavita, alias Kavya, who was found dead on the service road in front of Gulshan Mall. Believed to be a domestic worker, she lived on Kali Mandir Road in Kalika Dham, Delhi, with her husband Shankar, a hospital cleaner, and their daughter, according to a report by The Times of India.

Where Did it Go Wrong?

According to the police, the accused had recently come in contact with Vicky Mathur, a car driver who lived in Ganesh Nagar Complex in east Delhi. The two spoke frequently over the past 15–20 days, causing tensions between Kavita and her husband Shankar. A day before the incident, Kavita had another argument with Shankar. The situation escalated and they called 112. The police arrived, counselled them, and left.

Later, Kavita packed a bag with Rs 3.5 lakh in cash and left home to meet Vicky. They met, consumed alcohol, and a confrontation over marriage followed. During this, Kavita reportedly proposed to Vicky and offered him the money if he would marry her. The accused refused and told her he was already married, which led to an altercation. Vicky then allegedly killed Kavita and fled with the bag of cash.

What Police Said

The incident came to light on March 2, when Expressway police received information about an abandoned woman’s body and began investigating. A complaint was filed by the woman’s husband, and the accused was subsequently arrested. The car used in the crime and Rs 3.02 lakh in cash were recovered from the accused.
