Karnataka Woman, Lover Kills Husband In Sleep, Stages It As a Heart Attack

karnataka woman, lover kills husband in sleep, stages it as a heart attack

What initially looked like a death caused by a heart attack after a 50-year-old man from Karnataka’s Tumkur district turned out to be a murder by his wife and her lover, police said after exhuming the body nearly a month later. The deceased, Paramesh, a daily wage labourer, died on January 29, and his wife, P Asha, told relatives he had suffered a heart attack, after which the family conducted his last rites the next day. Suspicion arose when Asha married her alleged lover, Chandrappa, just 20 days later.

Acting on a complaint by Paramesh’s sisters, police exhumed the body and conducted a post-mortem, which revealed signs of smothering rather than a cardiac arrest. During interrogation, Asha and Chandrappa allegedly confessed to killing Paramesh by smothering him with a pillow while he slept and staging the death as a heart attack. Both have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.

This comes days after a woman killed her husband to claim insurance money worth over Rs 2 crore in Telangana’s Nizamabad district. Police say the accused, Soumya, planned the killing with her lover and hired contract killers. After the killing she attempted to pass the murder as a heart attack. The victim, identified as Palnati Ramesh and a resident of Borgam (K) village in Makloor mandal, had been married to Soumya for nearly 13 years.

Soumya allegedly drugged her husband Ramesh before her lover Dilip and an accomplice strangled and suffocated him, later staging the death as a heart attack. Suspicion raised by Ramesh’s brother from Israel led police to exhume the body, and a re-postmortem confirmed murder. Soumya, Dilip and others have been arrested, while one accused remains absconding.
