Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped a gun attack on Friday during a wedding function in the Royal Park area of Greater Kailash. According to J&K police, the incident occurred shortly after 10:30 pm when a man opened fire on Abdullah, who was present at the function along with Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary.
Security personnel quickly apprehended the shooter, and took him into custody. Police have launched an investigation to determine why the suspect opened fire and who he intended to target.
J&K Police said, “An incident of firing was reported at a function where JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah and Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary were present. One person has been arrested,” as quoted by ANI
PTI reported, citing officials, that the assailant was overpowered by two officers of the security wing of J&K Police.
Authorities added that the accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attempted to shoot at Farooq Abdullah as he was leaving the marriage hall in Jammu.

When asked if anyone was injured in the incident, Nasir Aslam Wani, advisor to the J&K CM, said, “No, it’s nothing like that. Allah has been very kind…” as quoted by ANI.
When asked about police arrangements at the spot where the incident happened, he said, “They (police) should check. It is too early to comment on anything…”
When asked about whether someone has been taken into custody, he said, “He (the accused) has been taken into custody for now… This is just the start. When the investigation is complete, we will know what it was and what he was looking for… He (Farooq Abdullah) is absolutely fine… He is currently taking some rest…”
