indigo fuel surcharge: flight to get costlier from today! new fuel charge ranging from rs 425 to rs 2300 on tickets – details

IndiGo Airlines introduced a fuel charge on domestic and international routes from today, March 14. The measure has been taken due to the significant surge in fuel prices following the ongoing geopolitical issues in the Middle East.

The charges will range anywhere from Rs 425 to Rs 2,300 based on destinations. “IATA’s Jet Fuel Monitor indicates an 85+ per cent increase in fuel prices for the region,” the airlines said in a statement.

Air India and Air India Express had also announced fuel surcharges on tickets on March 10.

Aviation Turbine Fuel represents a significant share of airlines’ operating costs. This sudden and steep increase will have a material impact on all airlines’ costs and networks, including IndiGo’s, it added.

“While offsetting the entire impact of the fuel price surge requires a very substantial adjustment to fares, IndiGo has introduced a relatively smaller amount as a Fuel Charge keeping in mind the consequential burden on customers,” it said.

For South East Asia and China, Africa and West Asia flights, the fuel charge is Rs 1,800 and for Europe flights, it is Rs 2,300.

“IndiGo regrets the inconvenience resulting from this additional charge and reiterates that the measure has been driven by a sudden and substantial change in the operating environment. IndiGo will continue to monitor the situation and make relevant adjustments as and when appropriate,” the airline said in the statement.
