The Times Now Summit 2026: Times Group Managing Director Vineet Jain on Thursday outlined an ambitious roadmap for India’s future at the Times Now Summit 2026, urging a shift from celebrating past milestones to building the foundations of a developed nation by 2047.
Speaking at the summit themed “Shaping India @ 100”, Jain said, “The real question before us is not what India has already become. The real question is – what must India still build… to become the nation it is capable of being by 2047?” He added: “Milestones matter. But nations are not transformed by anniversaries.”
Aatmanirbhar Bharat ansd Hard Choices
Jain added that the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat is not a slogan for the present moment; “it is a doctrine for the future. Self-reliance does not mean isolation; it means strength.”
“The ambition of becoming a developed nation by 2047 will require hard choices. Second-generation reforms. More competitive institutions. A stronger innovation culture. Faster urban transformation. Greater investment in research. And a public discourse that rewards long-term thinking, not just short-term reaction.”
Self-reliance in Energy
He added that India must build self-reliance in energy, because no nation can claim sovereignty if the fuel of its economy remains hostage to foreign supply chains and the volatility of energy markets.
On artificial intelligence, he added that India must build self-reliance in artificial intelligence and India must build sovereignty in data.
Marking 20 years of Times Now, Jain described the Summit as a platform “where ideas are tested, assumptions are challenged, and the future is shaped with intent.” He said India stands at a “defining moment” where “economic momentum, demographic energy, digital capabilities and geopolitical relevance have converged”. However, he cautioned that the key challenge lies ahead – determining what India must build to fully realise its potential by its centenary year of Independence.
About The Summit
The Times Now Summit 2026 stands as one of India’s most influential platforms for leadership, ideas, and action. Bringing together top policymakers, global strategists, industry leaders, and changemakers, the summit serves as a space to shape the country’s future trajectory. This year’s theme, “Celebrating Times Now @20 & Shaping India @100,” reflects both a moment of reflection and a forward-looking vision as India approaches its centenary of independence. Over the past two decades, Times Now has played a key role in driving accountability and shaping national discourse, and the summit builds on that legacy by focusing on actionable ideas to accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat and a leading voice in the Global South.
