It will run between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya), improving connectivity between eastern India and the Northeast.

The new train comes in orange and grey colours and promises a faster, safer and more comfortable journey for passengers travelling long distances overnight.

The Howrah–Guwahati–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper train will pass through nine districts across West Bengal and Assam. In West Bengal, it will run through Howrah, Hooghly, Purba Bardhaman, Murshidabad, Malda, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar. In Assam, it will cover Kamrup Metropolitan and Bongaigaon.

Made in India train

The Railways said the Vande Bharat Sleeper train strongly reflects the Make in India initiative. Its three most important systems, the bogie, propulsion system and vehicle control system, are fully designed and developed in India, said media reports. This makes it a completely indigenous train.

Speed and technology

The train can reach a maximum speed of 180 kmph. However, for regular service, it will run at speeds of up to 130 kmph, depending on track conditions, stoppages and safety requirements. The Railways said safety remains the top priority.

Stoppages on the route

During its journey between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya), the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will reportedly stop at eight stations:

Bandel

Katwa

New Farakka

Malda Town

New Jalpaiguri

New Cooch Behar

New Bongaigaon

Overall, the new Vande Bharat Sleeper train aims to reduce travel time, improve comfort and offer a modern rail experience for passengers travelling between eastern India and the Northeast.
