Gandhinagar Typhoid Outbreak: Around 88 patients are currently receiving treatment at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital and Urban Health Centres (UHCs) amid a typhoid outbreak in the city, the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) said. The civic body dismissed rumours of deaths linked to water contamination, stating that none of the cases are critical. It confirmed that all patients are stable and receiving proper treatment for a full recovery. The outbreak is believed to have been caused by water contamination from pipeline leaks.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the GMC clarified that a total of 133 cases have been registered. All patients were admitted to hospital, of whom 45 have been discharged, while the rest remain under treatment. Most of those affected are children and teenagers.

The GMC also addressed rumours that a child had died from the disease. “All hospitalised patients are in stable condition. There are no critical cases and no deaths,” the civic body posted on X.
Areas Affected by Gandhinagar Water Contamination
Typhoid cases have been reported in Sectors 24, 26, 28 and Adiwada. The authorities have intensified surveillance and deployed around 85 health workers from Sector 24 and 29 UHCs to monitor the situation.
GMC teams have detected and repaired 31 leaking water pipelines. They also tested 531 water samples for proper chlorination, all of which were safe for human consumption.
The outbreak was reported about two days ago, and the state health department, together with the Gandhinagar district administration, is closely monitoring the situation.
