Delhi Water Crisis: Large parts of Delhi continue to face a water shortage for the fourth straight day on Thursday after a technical fault disrupted supply from a key treatment plant, even as authorities said restoration is underway. According to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), the disruption was caused due to an unexpected malfunction at the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant (WTP) .
“Due to an unexpected technical malfunction at Chandrawal WTP, the water supply has been affected, but the Delhi Jal Board is taking swift action to bring the situation under control. Water supply has been restored in several areas, and phased restoration is underway in the remaining areas as well. DJB teams are continuously monitoring and carrying out repair work 24×7 to fully normalize the water supply. We regret the inconvenience caused. Your cooperation is requested.”

What Caused the Disruption
Officials said the issue began on Sunday after a 600mm diameter backwash pipeline burst near the facility. Since the plant is located in a low-lying area, the pump house got submerged, forcing a complete shutdown of operations. This led to a major disruption in water supply across several parts of the city.
Areas Worst Affected
In central Delhi, areas around Hindu Rao Hospital, Kamla Nagar, Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar, Baljeet Nagar and Inderpuri have been among the worst hit.
Complaints have also been reported from south Delhi localities such as Vasant Vihar, RK Puram and Munirka, along with parts of north Delhi including Malka Ganj and Timarpur.
Protest and Public Anger
The water crisis has triggered protests, with residents raising concerns over the prolonged shortage.
A protest was held on Wednesday outside the DJB headquarters, where AAP MLA Vishesh Ravi said, “There is a shortage of water in our area. People are worried about water. People are yearning for a drop of water. Young children, elders, mothers and sisters are wandering here in sorrow. We waited for three days…”
Social media has also been flooded with complaints from affected residents.
One user wrote, “There is water crisis in delhi in the region of Baljeet nagar from past four days. It is taking toll on people residing in this area. kindly intervene and resolve. Yours faithful Voter.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Wednesday, DJB said that repair work is close to completion and supply is being restored in phases.
However, many areas continue to face low or no water supply, with residents hoping for full restoration at the earliest.
