Delhi’s weather is once again showing signs of change as rising daytime heat is accompanied by increasing cloud cover across the capital. This comes after the national capital on Sunday (March 8) recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius, 7.2 degrees above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, while bright sunshine has already begun giving residents a taste of early summer with the the city on Saturday experiencing the hottest day in the first week of March in the last 50 years, with the day temperature hitting 35.7 degrees Celsius, a fresh western disturbance developing over the Himalayan region is expected to influence weather conditions across the plains, including Delhi, in the coming days.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the weather in Delhi and surrounding areas on Monday (March 9) is expected to remain largely dry, although partly cloudy skies may persist due to the influence of the western disturbance. Areas such as Central Delhi, New Delhi and South Delhi are likely to witness light sunshine during the day, with cloud cover increasing toward the evening.

As per the IMD, maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday is expected to reach around 37 and 17 degrees Celsius, respectively. Relative humidity, which was recorded at 90 per cent at 8.30 am on Sunday, stood at 29 per cent at 5.30 pm.

Weather officials have clarified that no rainfall or strong winds are expected today, but a slight change in wind direction may bring a mild increase in humidity levels.

Outer areas of the capital, including Najafgarh and Narela, are also expected to experience stable weather conditions.

The air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category on Sunday, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 247, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.

According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.

Delhi Weather This Week

Cloud movement is likely to continue on March 10 and March 11, which may bring a slight drop in daytime temperatures. Some areas, particularly North-East Delhi and Shahdara, may experience mild cool breezes during this period.

From March 12 onwards, skies are expected to clear again, with stronger sunshine returning across the city. The weather department has forecast above-normal temperatures for the next seven days, indicating that Delhi residents may soon have to prepare for more intense summer-like heat.

For now, there is no major rainfall alert, and dry conditions could also lead to dusty winds in the coming days.
