A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus was allegedly vandalised and set on fire by angry residents in Delhi’s Nangloi area on Monday (March 9) after it reportedly crushed a youth riding a scooter, who died on the spot. The bus then rammed into several other vehicles, police said, injuring several people, who were admitted to the local hospital. The crowd gathered at the spot hurled stones, damaging the windows of several vehicles before setting it on fire, news agency PTI reported, citing police sources.
The incident occurred around 9:45 am when a DTC cluster bus, DL 1 PD 6223, coming from the Najafgarh side, struck a scooty, a bike, a hand rickshaw, and pedestrians on Najafgarh-Nangloi Road. According to Delhi Police, two people have died in the incident. The injured have been shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said it received a call about the bus on fire around 10 am. “A bus was found engulfed in flames, and the windows of some other vehicles were damaged. The fire was completely extinguished by 11 am,” a DFS officer said.
The bus driver has been arrested. Further investigation is underway.
