chennai rain returns: parts of tamil nadu on yellow alert - here what to expect this week

Chennai Rain: Residents should prepare for light to moderate rain in Chennai beginning Sunday, February 1. While the city expects steady showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in neighboring districts, including Thiruvallur, Ranipet, and Vellore, till February 5. The IMD’s weather forecast today indicates that these regional systems will likely bring significant rainfall to Chennai throughout the week.

Chennai Rain Cause

According to independent weather bloggers, Tamil Nadu is seeing rain due to a weak Easterly wave, which is currently passing through the region. “Coastal TN between Delta and South TN may see some light rains under the influence of a weak Easterly wave passing through the region. Rest of the state may remain dry though with some cloudy skies,” said the Chennai Rains (COMK), which has 187.7K followers on X, formerly Twitter.
