Chennai residents should prepare for a scheduled power cut today, January 29, 2026, as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) will conduct essential maintenance work. The power outages will affect more than 70 locations across the city, with electricity supply interrupted for approximately five hours.

Chennai Power Cut: Timings

The power cut is set to occur from 9 AM to 2 PM IST. TANGEDCO has announced that this maintenance is crucial for ensuring a reliable electricity supply throughout Chennai. The routine checks will include servicing lines and inspecting transformers, which are vital for preventing unexpected outages in the future.

Numerous localities will experience the outage, with significant impacts in Madhavaram and Vadaperumbakkam. The following areas will be affected during the maintenance window:

Madhavaram:

  • Ganapathi Siva Nagar
  • Shastri Nagar
  • Madurai Manavalan Nagar
  • Mohan Nagar
  • Munusamy Nagar
  • Raghavendra Nagar
  • Kulapamkulam
  • Vishnu Nagar
  • Ambal Nagar

Vadaperumbakkam:

  • Kanniamman Nagar
  • Vedhachalam Nagar
  • Chelliamman Nagar
  • Sabari Nagar
  • Samvel Nagar
  • Perumal Kovil Street
  • Balaji Nagar
  • Lourd Garden
  • Thanikachalam Nagar

  • KVT Township

In addition to these areas, around 50 locations in Sembiam and Ayapakkam will also face power interruptions. Residents in these localities are advised to plan accordingly to mitigate the impact of the outage.
