Bihar politics: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is all set file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, a move that signals a major political shift in the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to arrive in Patna around the same time, further fueling speculation about a possible leadership change.
According to ET sources, the BJP may appoint a new chief minister to lead the state government after Kumar moves to the upper house.
Nomination filing for the five Rajya Sabha seats in the state will close on Thursday. The BJP has named two of its candidates, including National General Secretary Nitin Naveen, and confirmed a second consecutive term for junior NDA ally Upendra Kushwaha.
According to these unconfirmed reports, the BJP, which is performing better than the JD(U) in the elections, will have its own CM in the only Hindi heartland state where the highest seat of power has eluded it.
These reports also suggested that as part of a deal, Kumar might consider the post of Deputy CM for his son.
