Big Relief Amid LPG Crunch: Delhi CM Announces Free Cylinder On Holi and Diwali

delhi cm announces free cylinder on holi and diwali big relief amid lpg crunch

In a major relief for Delhi households amid ongoing LPG supply concerns, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that every household will receive two free LPG cylinders – one each on Holi and Diwali -with a total allocation of Rs 260 crore in the 2026-27 budget. CM Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented a record Rs 1,03,700 crore budget for the National Capital Territory, describing it as a “green budget” during a phase of economic transition.

Pointing to the past fiscal challenges, she noted that a “culture of freebies” during the 2018-20 period under the previous AAP government had affected revenue growth. The budget projects tax revenue of Rs 74,000 crore, while Delhi’s per capita income remains the third highest in India.

The budget also lays strong emphasis on infrastructure and urban development. Key allocations include Rs 11,666 crore for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Rs 5,921 crore for the Public Works Department (PWD), and Rs 7,887 crore for urban development and housing projects. These measures aim to combine economic growth with environmental sustainability and improved public welfare.
