The work on Bengaluru‘s Banjara Arch Road has stalled, leaving debris, an open drain and traffic congestion. The residents and commuters have complained about the issues, but the work has remained in limbo. Initially, the people living nearby were happy when the Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) authorities took up the development of the drain on Banjara Arch Road. The work was expected to be completed in 15 days; however, it remains incomplete even after a month, Bangalore Mirror reported.
As the work still remains incomplete, the concrete and stone slabs kept along the roadside are causing inconvenience to commuters and motorists.
The residents stressed that the work was initiated to resolve drainage issues, but it has now turned into a major inconvenience for the public, making it difficult for them to use.
What Bengaluru People Complained About?
People stressed that slabs covering the drain were removed after repeated complaints of the drain being choked with silt and debris. However, after they took out the slabs, the work was left incomplete.
Rubble, dust and the open drain further caused severe safety and health concerns among residents.
One of the residents said that traffic jams have become routine on this road during peak hours. “I appeal to the authorities to fix this problem without further delay.”
Mohammed Shafi, social activist and President of the RKBR Association, said, “Now, with the slabs removed and debris dumped along the roadside, the situation has become far worse.”
“Earlier, people were already struggling to walk because the footpaths were encroached. Now, slabs on the drain were removed and kept on the road, thus making it tough for pedestrians to walk on the road,” added Mohammed Shafi.
Authorities Assure Work To Be Completed Soon
BECC Assistant Executive Engineer Arpitha said the drain development work will be completed in a few days. “We will take up the asphalting of this road shortly. All the problems will be fixed soon,” the assistant executive engineer said, according to a Bangalore Mirror report.
