Bengaluru DJ Says 'Bomb' at Airport After Missing Flight, Gets Arrested

bengaluru dj says 'bomb' at airport after missing flight, gets arrested

Bengaluru: A 40-year-old disc jockey has been booked by police after he allegedly made a remark referring to a bomb during an argument with airline staff at Kempegowda International Airport. The accused, identified as Rajatesh Bera, is a native of North 24 Parganas and currently works as a DJ in Bengaluru.

According to police, the incident took place on March 11 when Bera was scheduled to travel from Bengaluru to Raipur on an IndiGo flight. He reportedly reached Gate No. 16 at Terminal 1 around 6:10 am but was denied entry by airline staff because he arrived after the boarding time.

Police said an argument broke out between Bera and the gate staff after he was told that the cut-off time for boarding had passed. During the exchange, he allegedly made a remark suggesting that the flight would stop if there was a bomb inside the aircraft.

The mention of the word “bomb” immediately raised security concerns at the airport, as such statements are treated seriously in aviation security. Airport authorities then followed standard protocol and formed a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) to examine the seriousness of the remark. Bera was detained at the airport and later handed over to the airport police.

“Based on the complaint filed by the airline staff, a case was registered against him under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” a senior police officer said.

During questioning, Bera told police that he was trying to board the flight urgently because his father was unwell. Police later released him on bail.

Officials said the investigation into the incident is currently underway.
