Bengaluru: A 15-year-old student died after falling from an abandoned building while trying to shoot a social media reel with his friends in west Bengaluru on Friday evening, police said. The victim, identified as Nishanth H, was a Class 10 student who had recently completed his board examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education about a week ago.
According to police, Nishanth left his home in the Ullala area around 4.30 pm and later met two of his friends. The teenagers reportedly planned to record short social media videos and decided to go to an abandoned resort building located in D Group Layout.
Investigators said the building has been lying vacant for nearly two decades because of an ongoing legal dispute. A security guard is usually posted at the site from 8 am to 5.30 pm. Police believe the boys entered the premises shortly after the guard had left for the day. They are suspected to have squeezed through a narrow gap near the compound wall to get inside the property.
Once inside the premises, Nishanth climbed onto the boundary wall of a tennis court structure and managed to reach the roof. The roof reportedly had polycarbonate sheets installed to allow natural light inside the structure.
Police said Nishanth stepped onto one of these sheets while his friends remained below. They warned him not to walk on the sheet and asked him to return immediately. However, he had already moved a few steps forward. As he tried to turn back, the fragile sheet suddenly broke under his weight.
Nishanth fell from a height of around 35 to 40 feet and suffered serious head injuries. His friends rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Police said the tragic incident occurred during an attempt to shoot content for social media.
Nishanth was the elder son of Harsha, a civil contractor. In a final act of generosity, the grieving family decided to donate his eyes.
Police at Annapoorneshwarinagar Police Station have registered a case of unnatural death and further investigation is underway.
