Assembly Election 2026 Date: The Election Commission of India on Sunday has announced the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory. The terms of the existing legislative assemblies in these regions are set to expire on various dates in May and June, making it necessary to conduct fresh elections.
Voting will take place at 2.19 lakh polling stations across four states and one Union Territory; 25 lakh election officials will be deployed on duty. Total 17.4 crore voters eligible to vote in elections to five assemblies with 824 constituencies.

1. Assam– Date of Polling- 9th April; Date of Counting 4th May
2. Tamil Nadu– Date of Polling- 23rd April; Date of Counting- 4th May
3. West Bengal– Date of Polling- 23rd April (1st phase), 29th April (2nd phase) ; Date of Counting- 4th May
4. Keralam– Date of Polling- 9th April; Date of Counting- 4th May.
5. Puducherry– Date of Polling- 9th April; Date of Counting- 4th May
During the press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said, “To give you a little overview of the electors, Assam as per the final list would be roughly 2.25 crores, Kerala 2.7 crores, Puducherry 9.44 lakhs, Tamil Nadu 5.67 crores, and West Bengal, the final list on 28th February comprises of 6.44 crores, and the learned judges, after their adjudication, whatever supplementary list comes, they shall be added…”
Final electoral rolls for the 4 states and Puducherry published
The final electoral rolls for the four states and Puducherry have already been published following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list, the PTI report said. The revision exercise updates and finalises the list of eligible voters ahead of the elections.
In Bengal, its the ruling Mamata Banerjee-led TMC vs BJP
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had on March 10 visited West Bengal to review poll preparedness in the state. They had also visited the other states which are heading into polls to review poll preparedness, ANI reported.
The total number of seats in the West Bengal legislative assembly is 294, with the main contest between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, has been in power in the state since 2011, the report said.
Assam will see battle between incumbent BJP-led NDA and Cong
Assam will witness a fight between the incumbent BJP-led NDA government and Congress for 126 state assembly seats, ANI report said.
In Kerala, NDA to join the LDF-UDF fight
In Kerala, the main fight is between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) for 140 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is also in the fray to compete against both alliances. BJP plans to contest around 100 seats in Kerala, while its allies Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) and Twenty20 are expected to contest the remaining 40 seats as part of the alliance, ANI reported.
TN wrapping up seat-sharing arrangements
For the 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, political parties are ramping up their campaign activities and finalising seat-sharing arrangements within their respective alliances, ANI report added.
Puducherry to see battles among Cong, All India NR Congress, BJP and AIADMK
Puducherry will hold elections for all 30 constituencies of the 16th Puducherry Legislative Assembly. While the Congress is fighting the polls in an alliance with DMK and CPI, the opposition consisted of All India NR Congress, BJP and AIADMK, ANI reported.
