Air India boosts capacity: Air India on Sunday announced that it will operate 78 more flights to five destinations in the US and Europe, responding to the growing demand for reliable travel options amid the ongoing situation in the Middle East. Between March 10-18, the Tata Group airline will operate extra capacity to New York (JFK) as well as five key European gateways over the next few days, including additional services to the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
After flights were suspended on various routes across the world, airlines are now resuming service on select routes to help stranded travelers.
Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India, said, “Despite the odds, Air India continues to maintain its scheduled services to Europe and North America, sustaining connectivity to several international gateways using alternative routings that are assessed as safe for operations. We are confident that passengers in need to travel to destinations in these regions will appreciate the additional options and reliability with Air India.”
To increase much-needed air travel capacity, Air India will operate additional flights on these routes:
- Delhi-New York (JFK)
- Delhi-London (Heathrow)
- Mumbai-London (Heathrow)
- Delhi-Frankfurt
- Delhi-Paris (CDG)
- Delhi-Amsterdam
- Delhi-Zurich
- Delhi-Malé
- Delhi-Colombo
Air India is gradually opening bookings for these additional flights through all channels, including its official website, mobile app, and travel agents.
According to information released by the airline, these flights will add 17,660 seats on nine routes on both sides. Flights on European routes will operate using Boeing 787-8s, while flights to Malé and Colombo will operate using Airbus A320neo aircraft.
Air India’s B777-300ER aircraft will be used on flights to New York (JFK), which are pending necessary regulatory approvals.
On Friday, Air India said that airspace closures in other parts of West Asia were impacting operations, and scheduled commercial flights to the affected areas would remain suspended until further notice.
Air India and Air India Express are operating scheduled flights to Jeddah and Muscat as airspace over Saudi Arabia and Oman remains open.
To assist guests stranded in the region, both airlines operated non-scheduled commercial flights on March 7. Air India Express operated 43 flights across the region on March 7.
