Ahmedabad: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz scheduled to visit Ahmedabad, the city traffic police will close the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) stretch on Monday to manage security and traffic during the International Kite Festival, which the two leaders will attend.
The move is expected to impact daily commuters, especially those travelling through the central and riverfront corridors, and motorists have been advised to use alternate routes.
Sabarmati Riverfront West Road to Be Shut
According to traffic police, the Riverfront Road from the Vadaj Crematorium crossroads to Ambedkar Bridge will remain closed to all categories of vehicles in both directions for the duration of the visit.

Alternate Routes Suggested for Commuters
To avoid congestion and delays, commuters have been advised to take an alternate corridor via:
- Vadaj Crematorium
- Vadaj Circle
- Usmanpura crossroads
- central section of the Income Tax Overbridge
- Town Hall crossroads
- onwards towards Paldi crossroads
Cadila Bridge Closure for Metro Work
Meanwhile, the Cadila Bridge will be closed to facilitate bullet train construction. As per the notification, the central BRTS lane on the Cadila Bridge will remain shut from both ends for around 600 metres until January 30.

During daytime, BRTS buses will be routed through the side roads adjacent to the bridge.
At night, vehicles crossing the Cadila Bridge will also be allowed to use side roads depending on which side is under operational control. Police said traffic will be shifted to the opposite side as required to maintain movement.
