ahmedabad highrise horror congress mp nephew accidental shooting wife suicide

Ahmedabad: In a shocking late-night incident, the nephew of Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil allegedly accidentally shot dead his wife, before turning the weapon on himself. The incident happened in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev where the young couple lived in a premium highrise.

As per the statement given by the family, Yashrajsinh Gohil, a Class-I officer with the Gujarat Maritime Board, and wife Rajeshwari returned home after dinner at a relative’s resident. While they were inside the bedroom, Gohil accidentally fired his licensed revolver, hitting Rajeshwari at the base of her head.

The shootings are believed to have occurred between 10.30 pm and midnight at flat A-502, on the fifth floor of NRI Tower on Judges Bungalow Road.

Confirming the sequence of events, ACP (A-Division) Jitendra Brahmbhatt said, “Late on Wednesday, Yashrajsinh Gohil accidentally fired a round from his licensed revolver, killing his wife, Rajeshwari. Following this, the 35-year-old shot himself.”

An unnatural death report has been registered at Vastrapur police station.

According to the statement given by Gohil’s mother Devyaniba, he immediately rushed to her room, informed her about the incident and said an ambulance needed to be called.

When she entered the bedroom, she found Rajeshwari unconscious and bleeding.

Police records show that Gohil contacted the 108 emergency ambulance service at 11.42 pm. Paramedics arrived shortly after and declared Rajeshwari dead. Officers confirmed that no police team had reached the flat at that stage.

According to Devyaniba’s statement, Gohil was visibly shaken, and asked his mother to step away and “change her clothes”.

Moments later, another gunshot was heard from the bedroom.

When Devyaniba and the ambulance staff rushed back, Gohil was found lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head. He was declared dead on the spot.

Both bodies were sent to Asarwa Civil Hospital for postmortem.

The Congress has ruled out marital discord. Party media convener Manish Doshi said the couple had plans to travel abroad and were scheduled to visit the passport office on Thursday.

After the postmortem, the bodies were taken to Limda in Bhavnagar for the final rites.
