In another major crackdown on food adulteration, Hyderabad police have busted an illegal ginger-garlic paste manufacturing unit operating under shocking and unhygienic conditions in Rajender Nagar. The operation was carried out by the Commissioner’s Task Force (Jubilee Hills Zone) along with food adulteration officials, exposing a large-scale racket supplying contaminated food products across the city.
During the surprise inspection, authorities raided two godowns functioning under the name “Deccan Traders” and apprehended three brothers — Sohail Charaniya, Raheem Charaniya, and Amit Charaniya — for their involvement in the illegal business. Officials found that the accused were producing and selling adulterated ginger-garlic paste by mixing harmful and non-edible substances.
According to police, the paste was being prepared using chemicals such as acetic acid, synthetic food colours, “Santic acid,” and even garlic husk, which is not meant for consumption. The entire process was carried out in extremely unhygienic surroundings, with the products stored in open containers exposed to dust, flies, and other contaminants. This raised serious health concerns, as such products can pose risks to consumers if consumed regularly.
Investigators revealed that the adulterated paste was being distributed in bulk to wholesale kirana stores and catering services across Hyderabad. By supplying these low-cost, substandard products as genuine items, the accused were reportedly making significant illegal profits while compromising public health.
During the raid, officials seized nearly 70 quintals of ginger-garlic paste along with chemical substances and raw materials used in the manufacturing process. The total value of the seized goods is estimated to be around ₹3.5 lakh. The scale of the operation indicates that the racket had been active for a considerable period and had an established supply network.
Following the raid, the accused and the seized materials were handed over to Attapur Police Station for further investigation. Authorities are now working to trace the distribution chain and identify other possible links connected to the illegal operation.
This incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over food adulteration in urban areas and the need for strict enforcement of food safety regulations. Officials have assured that stringent action will be taken against those responsible, and similar inspections will continue to prevent unsafe food products from reaching consumers.
