Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway Accident: Four people were killed after a private bus crashed on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway near Sankalagere village in Channapatna taluk on Monday morning (March 23). The bus was travelling from Calicut in Kerala to Bengaluru when it lost control and crashed into roadside fencing around 4:10 AM.

The police noted that it was a private bus, which lost control on the expressway before crashing, killing four people. The bus was scheduled to reach Bengaluru by 5:10 AM.

Who Are The Deceased?

The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Mohammed Farhan and 45-year-old Sulfi from Kozhikode in Kerala, along with 45-year-old Rasheed, a resident of Kalasipalya in Bengaluru, and Saker from Annepalya in Adugodi. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the government hospital for post-mortem, as the police and forensics take the investigation further.

Two others sustained injuries in the accident, identified as Abdul and Allen from Kannur in Kerala, and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

What Could Have Led To The Accident?

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver may have dozed off, leading to the accident, IANS reported. The bus veered off the road and rammed into the railing in the early hours of Monday, and continued scraping the railing for nearly 100 metres before crashing.

Channapatna traffic police rushed to the spot after the accident was reported and conducted a thorough investigation. They further cleared the damaged bus using a crane, TOI reported.

What Police Officials Said?

A senior police officer told TOI that the railing was installed to separate the main carriageway from the service road. During the time of the accident, around 40 people were on board the bus, including the driver and support staff.

Reportedly, the driver, who sustained minor injuries, is currently in police custody for investigation.
