A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was killed after being run over by a speeding truck near Nelamangala in Bengaluru on Saturday (March 21) morning, police said. The child, identified as Nishtia LN, was walking with her mother Lavanya, who was carrying her 11-month-old son, when the accident occurred around 11.30 am.
According to police, as per a report by The Times of India, the trio was on their way to a temple and walking along the left side of a congested road when the truck, allegedly driven rashly, knocked down the child. The driver, identified as Murthy, fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle at the location.

Lavanya watched helplessly as the truck ran over her daughter, officials said. The deceased girl has been identified as Nischitha L.N. Gowda. Acting on a complaint lodged by Nischitha’s grandmother, the Madanayakanahalli Police have registered an FIR against the truck driver under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, about rash or negligent driving endangering life and causing death by negligence.
Police said they are verifying the driver’s identity and vehicle documents. Investigators will also check whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and may recommend cancellation of his driving licence. The truck involved in the accident has been seized.

In another road accident, three men died, after the mini goods vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a truck parked on the roadside due to a flat tyre, near Medahalli.
The mini goods vehicle was mangled due to the impact of the accident. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
