Raymond Group Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Singhania sustained minor injuries after a speedboat carrying tourists capsized in the Maldives early Friday. He has since been flown back to Mumbai and is currently undergoing treatment at Breach Candy Hospital. Officials confirmed that his condition is stable.
The incident occurred near V Felidhoo, where the vessel, carrying seven passengers, overturned under circumstances that are now under investigation. Singhania was among those rescued shortly after the accident and was later transported to India for medical care.
In a statement issued on his behalf, a spokesperson said that Singhania suffered ;minor injuries’ in the unfortunate incident and is recovering well under medical supervision. The spokesperson also expressed gratitude for the concern shown and extended prayers for the safety and well-being of others involved in the mishap.
According to local reports, the group on board included two women—one from the United Kingdom and another from Russia and five Indian men. Authorities in the Maldives stated that five individuals were thrown into the sea when the boat capsized. These included a Russian woman and four Indian nationals.
Among those currently unaccounted for are two Indian men, including noted rally driver Hari Singh. Search and rescue operations are actively underway as officials continue efforts to trace the missing individuals. Rescue teams are combing the surrounding waters, while local authorities have initiated a detailed probe into the cause of the accident.
The incident has raised concerns over tourist safety in the region, even as Maldivian authorities work to ensure swift rescue operations and a thorough investigation. Further updates are expected as search efforts continue and more details emerge about the circumstances leading to the accident.
