New Delhi: After a spell of rain on Wednesday, Delhi woke up to a slightly cooler morning on Thursday, with the minimum temperature dropping to around 19 degrees C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the change in weather is due to a strong western disturbance moving across north India. The national capital had been experiencing warmer conditions in recent days, with temperatures touching around 34 degrees C. However, the fresh rain and cloudy skies have brought a noticeable drop in temperature.
Yellow Alert for Rain and Thunderstorms
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for March 19 and 20, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall in the city. According to weather department Delhi is likely to see cloudy skies with intermittent rain throughout the day. Thunderstorms may also occur along with lightning and gusty winds of around 30 to 40 kmph.
For March 19, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 29 degrees C, while the minimum may remain near 19 degrees C.
On March 20, the maximum temperature may fall further to around 27 degrees C, with the minimum likely to be around 17 degrees C.
Temperature Likely to Drop Further
Meteorologists said the combination of moisture-filled winds and the western disturbance could bring a temperature drop of about 4 degrees C to 6 degrees C in the coming days.
The rainfall and cloudy conditions are expected to bring a cooling effect across the city, offering some relief from the early summer heat that was felt in the first half of March.
Officials also said that rain may help reduce dust and pollution levels in the air, which could slightly improve air quality in the city.
