A 19-year-old Delhi University student was allegedly molested and raped at her friend’s birthday party in Gurugram, the officials said on Tuesday (March 17). The Gurugram police have arrested the accused, who is a Delhi resident and was also invited to the party, according to a report by the PTI news agency.
The teenage girl was present at the house party in Sector 33, Gurugram, the officials said. The 29-year-old accused, identified as Divyam, was also invited to the party in Gurugram.
What Happened At Gurugram Birthday Party?
The girl, who is a Delhi University student and is originally from West Bengal, had come to her friend’s flat on Saturday for a birthday party, where alcohol was being consumed, the police officials said, adding that the accused had joined the party through the girl’s friend.
It is alleged that late at night, the accused, under the influence of alcohol, began molesting the woman. After this, he allegedly took the girl to a secluded area of the apartment during the party and sexually assaulted her, taking advantage of her intoxicated state.
Shocked by the attack, the girl resisted and raised an alarm. She also alerted her friend, and the accused fled from the spot, said the police. The girl then approached the police the next day.
Case Filed Against Accused
A case of rape under Section 64 (1) of the BNS was registered at Sadar Police Station, and a medical examination of the victim was conducted. Her statement was also recorded before a judicial magistrate, they added.
The accused is a resident of Delhi’s Rohini and has been arrested by the Gurugram police. According to the preliminary investigation, the accused committed the crime under the influence of alcohol. He was sent into judicial custody and further probe is underway”, said a senior police officer.
