Bomb Threat At Gujarat Assembly Ahead Of Budget Session, Complex Evacuated

bomb threat at gujarat assembly ahead of budget session, complex evacuated

The Gujarat Assembly was evacuated Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was received shortly before the Budget Session was about to begin at 9 am. Vitthalbhai Patel Bhavan, home to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, received a bomb threat just as members started arriving for the session. The authorities initiated an evacuation around 8.45 am following the email which warned of a possible explosive device. Staff and officials were asked to exit immediately as police teams, along with bomb disposal and dog squads, began a thorough search of the premises.

Director General of Police KLN Rao reached the site to oversee the operation, as security was tightened across the complex with strict access control measures in place.

Officials said this was the second such threat in Gandhinagar within two days. On March 16, a similar alert had been issued for Karmyogi Bhawan in Sector 11.

The day’s proceedings were set to begin with Question Hour focusing on the agriculture, farm welfare, co-operation and animal husbandry departments. A number of school students were also expected to be present for the session.

The Budget Session is scheduled to continue till March 25 and is expected to include the introduction of a bill on the Uniform Civil Code. The draft report was submitted a day earlier to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel by a panel led by retired Justice Ranjana Desai.
