Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday extended greetings to devotees and participants of the Matua Dharma Mela, which marks the 215th birth anniversary of spiritual leader Harichand Thakur.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister paid tributes to Harichand Thakur and highlighted the spiritual and social significance of his teachings.
“My heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all devotees and participants of the Matua Dharma Mela. This special occasion is associated with the Jayanti of Purna Brahma Shree Shree Harichand Thakur Ji. I offer my humble Pranams to him,” said PM Modi.
“His thoughts and teachings continue to give strength and hope to several people. They awakened a powerful movement for dignity, equality and devotion. He inspired generations to walk the path of righteousness, harmony and collective upliftment,” he added.
The Prime Minister also noted that the rich and vibrant traditions of the Matua culture reflect a deep spiritual strength and an unbreakable commitment to equality and it significantly enriches the social fabric of our nation.
“Over the past decade, our Government has been deeply committed to the welfare, empowerment and dignity of the Matua community,” he concluded.
The Matua Dharma Mela is an important religious and cultural gathering for followers of the Matua faith and is observed annually to commemorate the legacy and teachings of Harichand Thakur, who founded the Matua movement advocating social equality and spiritual devotion.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings to members of the Matua community on the occasion.
In a post on X, HM Shah said, “On sacred occasion of Matua Dharma Mela marking 215th birth anniversary of Purna Brahma Shree Shree Harichand Thakur Ji, I extend my heartiest best wishes to our sisters and brothers of Matua community.”
“A divine soul, Thakur Ji delved into the profoundity of our wisdom and brought forth the pearls of devotion, equality and moral living, which today serve as our guiding principles. May Matua Dharma Mela 2026 held in North 24 Paraganas West Bengal strengthen our commitment to these principles,” he added.
