YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Roja Selvamani has raised sharp questions over the priorities of the Andhra Pradesh government, pointing out what she called “clear favouritism” towards Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Reacting to the recent Cabinet meeting held at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat, Roja pointed out that while the Cabinet gathered to discuss key governance matters, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan was notably absent. She remarked that political sources indicated he was busy with production work related to his upcoming film Ustaad Bhagat Singh, raising questions about priorities within the government.
Roja also pointed out that six other ministers were absent from the same Cabinet meeting. According to her, the absence of several ministers appeared unusual and suggested that it may have been done deliberately so that no one would question the Deputy Chief Minister’s absence from such an important administrative meeting.
Further criticising the government’s decisions, Roja highlighted that the same Cabinet approved special benefit shows for Ustaad Bhagat Singh between 4 AM and 5 AM starting March 19. She pointed out that the government also allowed ticket prices to go up to ₹500 for these benefit shows.
In addition, the government permitted a temporary hike in ticket prices for ten days, allowing theatres to increase prices by ₹100 in single screens and ₹125 in multiplexes. Roja questioned whether such decisions were taken keeping public interest in mind.
She also pointed to the Cabinet approving incentives for Heritage Foods, a company associated with the family of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. According to Roja, these developments raise serious concerns about whose interests the current government is working for.
Roja argued that the Cabinet meeting appeared to benefit specific individuals rather than addressing the issues faced by the people of Andhra Pradesh. Her remarks have sparked fresh political debate, with opposition leaders amplifying the criticism while leaders from the ruling alliance dismiss the allegations as politically motivated.
