Bengaluru: As the West Asia conflict continues to affect fuel supplies, the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders is now beginning to impact paying guest (PG) accommodations in Bengaluru’s eastern IT corridor. While the government has said the country has adequate LPG stocks, several PG owners in the city say they are running out of cooking gas and struggling to arrange regular meals for tenants.
The situation has created concern among migrant professionals living in PGs, many of whom rely on the facilities for daily food.
Bengaluru PG Association Issues Advisory
Bengaluru PG Association held a meeting on Wednesday and issued an advisory for all PG owners in the city to cut on the menu, serve only two meals a day. The advisory said, “Bengaluru PG Association Issue Advisory Amidst LPG Shortage. PGs have been advised to serve only two meals per day from Monday to Friday, Avoid gas intensive dishes like dosa, poori and chapati. Ban personal gas cooking inside PGs and encourage the use of electric rice cookers along with shared cooking arrangements between nearby PGs
Bengaluru LPG Crisis Affects Tenants
PG operators in areas such as Whitefield, Marathahalli and Ashwath Nagar say the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has started affecting kitchen operations. These neighbourhoods house hundreds of young professionals working in nearby technology parks and companies. According to PG owners, the shortage is forcing them to cut back on meals and limit cooking, according to Times of India report.
Lunch Services Suspended at Several Bengaluru PGs
The Whitefield PG Owners’ Welfare Association has issued a notice to residents informing them that lunch services will be temporarily suspended due to the shortage. The notice said lunch services would be stopped for a few days starting March 13 because of the limited availability of LPG cylinders.

Owner Warns of LPG Crisis
A PG owner in Marathahalli, who is part of the association, said the situation could worsen if supplies are not restored soon.
“As of now, we have stock for the next two days. If the situation continues, we may have to ask some tenants to go back to their hometowns because managing food will become extremely difficult,” the owner told TOI.
PG operators say they are struggling to secure cylinders from distributors. One owner said their gas dealer had not responded to calls for two days. “We have just one cylinder left and are serving simple items like rice, upma and vermicelli to manage fuel consumption,” the owner said, as per TOI report.
Tenants Seek Work-From-Home Option
Many residents staying in PG accommodations say the uncertainty over meals is making daily life difficult. Sai Kiran said tenants have already been informed about possible disruption in food services. “Even in our office, they are taking note of employees who stay in PGs so that they can be given work-from-home options,” he said.

With the LPG shortage now affecting restaurants, hotels and PG accommodations across Bengaluru, residents fear that food services could be disrupted further if the supply situation does not improve soon.
